Alibates Butterfly Garden

The Butterfly Garden at Alibates Flint Quarries Visitor Center acts as a waystation for Monarch Butterflies as the migrate across North America. Milkweed plants and wildflowers native to the short grass prairie provide Monarch Butterflies with food, water, and shelter.

Alibates Flint Quarries Guided Tour

 Join a Park Ranger for a one-of-a kind program.  Learn about the Native Americans who lived on the Texas Plains and used Alibates Flint for 13,000 years.  Convoy to the trailhead for a moderate 2 mile hike that includes a climb of 170 ft in elevation.

Alibates Flint Quarries Visitor Center Museum

The Alibates Flint Quarries Museum consists of several exhibits inside of the Alibates Flint Quarries Visitor Center.

Learn about 13,000 years of use of Alibates Flint as a tool, weapon, and trade good. Alibates Flint articifacts can be viewed in the museum and several exhibits offer hands-on learning.  

Fishing

Meredith Reservoir has a very diverse fish community and provides opportunities for every Lake Meredith Reservoir has a diverse fish community and provides opportunities for all types of anglers. Walleye are the primary sport fish in the reservoir and maintained through natural reproduction.  Meredith Reservoir also has an excellent smallmouth bass population. Most of the reservoir is rocky habitat, which is preferred by smallmouth bass. A number of 4-pound and larger fish

  • This fish was caught at the Sanford Yake Fishing Dock. Many fisherman use this area to fish during all four seasons. Bass, Crappie, and Walleye have been caught in and around the fishing dock.

Off-Road Adventures

Off-Roading at Lake Meredith National Recreation Area

  • Whether you call it 4-wheeling or muddin', Lake Meredith has two areas set aside for off-road driving. Rosita Flats and Blue Creek are available for all-terrain vehicle recreation. Riders must stay within the cutbanks of Blue Creek and Rosita and below 3000 ft. elevation. All riders must wear a DOT approved safety helmet and eye protection. What is required? A Texas State ORV decal is required and can be purchased from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Customer Service Center at (512) 389-8917. At no cost, an NPS ORV permit is required when using the off road areas of Blue Creek and Rosita Flats.   For maps and specific Off-Road Vehicle questions, including information about the NPS OHV permitting system, please call Park Headquarters at 806-857-3151.

  • The Alibates Visitor Center is home to exhibits, a theater and outdoor gardens, showcasing the history of Alibates Flint. It is also the meeting place for ranger-led hikes and tours of the monument, demonstrations, and numerous special events throughout the year.
