Arkansas Post National Memorial, the Trail of Tears

Arkansas Post at Gillett, Arkansas in the Mississippi Delta Region provides a wealth of recreational opportunities such as hiking, nature sightseeing, fishing, and picnicking are favorite pastimes.

  • Standing at this location before you is Post Bend Lake which is the remnants of where the Arkansas River once flowed. Further beyond Post Bend lies the Arkansas River. Although cut by the Arkansas River in the past, today Post Bend is largely the result full of water as a result oof the Army Corps of Engineers constructing a dam. Post Bend Lake often has waterfowl, frogs, turtles, alligators, and lily pads. The banks along the river's edge are lined with various trees like oaks, and cedars. The banks at Arkansas Post descend steeply into Post Bend so don't get too close.
