Carillon Historical Park

Carillon Historical Park is a 65-acre open-air history museum that serves as the main campus for Dayton History. Visitors can enjoy and learn about the history of Dayton, Ohio and view the world's first practical airplane, the 1905 Wright Flyer III.

Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park

Orville and Wilbur Wright are renowned for inventing the airplane. They were also acquaintances of Paul Laurence Dunbar, who became one of the foremost African American poets and writers in the early 20th century.

Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center

The Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center is one of two visitor centers operated by the park in Dayton, Ohio. This center is located northeast of downtown Dayton, next to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the National Museum of the Air Force.

The Paul Laurence Dunbar House Historic Site honors the legacy of Dayton poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar. Visitors will learn about the renowned poet and his mother, Matilda. The house, the interpretive exhibits and displays inside the home document Dunbar's travels, lifestyle and poetry.

Wright Brothers Memorial

Wright Brother Hill is located in Greene County, Ohio. Constructed from 1938 to 1940, the memorial park commemorates the exceptional achievements of the Wright brothers. The site overlooks the Huffman Prairie Flying Field, a National Historic Landmark where the Wright brothers mastered their flying skills and developed the first practical airplane, the Wright Flyer III.

Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center

The Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center is one of two visitor centers operated by the park in Dayton, Ohio. This center is located just west of downtown Dayton and tells the story of Orville and Wilbur Wright and the African American poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center

  • Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center
  • Located on an active U.S. Air Force base (Wright Patterson AFB), the Huffman Prairie Interpretive Center provides visitors with a closer look at the aviation side of the Wright Brothers story. This visitor center is open Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but the grounds remain open dawn to dusk all seven days of the week.

Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center

  • The Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center is located just west of downtown Dayton on South Williams Street, directly south of Third Street. Interpretive displays, interactive exhibits and the park introductory film are all available at the WDIC. A small gift shop is also on site and is stocked with souvenirs and books related to the Wrights and Paul Laurence Dunbar.

  • Ranger Guided Tours of Dayton's National Park
  • The park offers ranger guided tours during the summer months, typically from Memorial Day through Labor Day, at one or both of the visitor centers.

  • Exploring Huffman Prairie Flying Field
  • Visit the site where aviation history was born, Huffman Prairie Flying Field. Visitors can explore the area and view a replica hangar that is similar to the one which the Wrights used to house their airplanes. A sprawling prairie also offers visitors a chance to stroll and explore nature too.

  • Tour the Wright Cycle Shop
  • The 4th bike shop that the Wright Brothers operated is a fixture of Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park. Come see the bike shop where the Wrights fixed bicycles and refined their mechanical ingenuity to develop the world's first practical airplane.
