Lower Crypt Access Subject to Safe Conditions

Access to the lower crypt area of the Mausoleum is subject to closure during wet and or low light conditions in the late afternoon. The main floor and the two reliquary rooms remain open during these conditions.

Eastern Trophy Room

  • Round room containing a tall metal case with civil war era flags. The wall maps out the southern battles of the Civil War.

General Grant National Memorial

The Crypt in Grant's Tomb

  • A stone circular pathway surrounding the large stone sarcophagi on a raised stone platform in the center of the room.

The Rotunda of Grant's Tomb

  • A large marble room with a ceiling that soars a hundred feet up to a dome that caps the building. A marble ledge forms a circle in the center of the room and on the walls are colorful mosaics which depict Civil War scenes.

Western Trophy Room

  • A small circular room surrounding an ornate metal and glass case housing colorful civil war flags. The wall has a mural which depicts the northern battles of the Civil War.

General Grant National Memorial Visitor Center and Overlook Pavilion

  • General Grant National Memorial Visitor Center and Overlook Pavilion
  • Located west of the mausoleum across the southbound lane of Riverside Drive, the visitor center provides a bookstore/gift shop, information desk staffed by a park ranger, interpretive exhibits and a 22-minute park film about Ulysses S. Grant and the mausoleum. The overlook pavilion offers a view of the surrounding Riverside Park and the Hudson River. The structure was originally a comfort station built in 1910 and was renovated to become the visitor center in 2011.
