Truman Farm Home Closed, Grounds Remain Open

Due to ongoing foundation construction, the park is suspending Truman Farm Home tours. The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset. Audio tours are available through the NPS App.

All Tickets are First-Come, First Served; We Cannot Take Reservations

All tickets to the Truman Home and the Truman Farm Home are first-come, first-served. At this time, we are unable to take any reservations for groups. No tickets are issued at the Truman Home itself...all tickets issued at the visitor center.

Campaign Headquarters

Harry S Truman had his 1922 campaign headquarters for Eastern District County Judge here.

  • The building where Harry S Truman had his first campaign headquarters no longer stands. There is an empty space between two brick buildings on the historic Independence square across from the Historic Truman Courthouse. Today, the space is occupied by an outdoor patio with string lights, tables, and a fence.

Clinton's Drugstore

Harry S Truman had his first job at Clinton's Drugstore.

  • Clinton's Drugstore is located on the northeast side of the historic Independence square just across the street from the Truman Historic Courthouse. The two-story building is brick with a white wooden storefront with the Clinton's sign in gold and black and white striped awnings.

Community Savings and Loan

Harry S Truman was a part of a company called Community Savings and Loan and their main office was located here.

  • The two-store brick building with store front is located just off the historic Independence square.

Farmers and Merchants Bank Building

Harry S Truman played poker in the Farmers and Merchants Bank Building.

The Harry S. Truman National Historic Site preserves the longtime home of Harry S. Truman and other properties in the Kansas City, Missouri, metropolitan area associated with him. Not only was he the thirty third president of the United States, he was also instrumental in the preservation of the Santa Fe Trail.

The Life on the Family Farm wayside tells the story of the Truman farm home.

  • The two limestone entrance pillars were originally at the end of a long drive and field in front of the Truman farm home. Today the entrance pillars stand at the entrance to a restaurant parking lot across the street from the Truman Farm Home.

Slack Grocery Building

Mike Pendergast announced Harry S Truman as the candidate for Eastern District County Judge in the Slack Grocery building.
