Temporary Closures for Peregrine Nesting

The following established climbing management areas are closed to all public use from March 1, 2025 to July 15, 2025 to protect peregrine falcon nesting aeries: Newhalem Crag East and Newhalem Crag West (Ryan’s Wall).

Hozomeen Gate Remains Closed

Until further notice, the gate at Hozomeen will remain closed; vehicle and foot traffic across the US/Canada border is prohibited. Visitors must enter through a designated port of entry.

State Route 20 Closed for the Season

State Route 20 is closed at milepost 134 (Ross Dam Trailhead) for the season due to heavy snowfall and risk of avalanche danger. Check the WSDOT real time map for up-to-date information, https://wsdot.com/Travel/Real-time/Map/.

Cascade River Road Seasonal Closure

Cascade River Road is closed for the season at Eldorado (milepost 20). Check the road conditions page for more information.

Diablo Lake Boat Launch Inaccessible to Powerboats

Due to silt accumulation, the Diablo Lake boat launch at Colonial Creek South Campground is not usable for launching most powerboats. Expect shallow or no water at the launch ramp and the possibility of needing to carry your boat to or from the water.

Be Aware of Break-ins along State Route 20

Prevent smashed windows and theft. Break-ins are not uncommon at trailheads along State Route 20. Remove your valuables and electronics and take associated electronic cords.

  • Goodell Creek Campground is situated in lush, old growth forest on the banks of the Skagit River. The roads in the campground are paved. Individual campsites generally have a picnic table and one or two flat tent pads. Many of the campsites have river views.

Gorge Lake Campground

  • Reservations are required during the peak season for all campgrounds from late May through early September of each year. Campsite reservations are available 6 months in advance. Campsites can be reserved online or over the phone. To reserve campsites over the phone, call recreation.gov at (877) 444-6777.
  • Gorge Lake Campground is on the bank of Gorge Lake, next to a cascading creek. It is a small campground; the sites are close together and they all have views of the Lake.

Harlequin Campground

  • Harlequin Campground sites are reservable 2-180 days in advance at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.
  • Located right along the Stehekin River in a mixed forest of western red cedar and maple. Campsites have space for multiple tents and all have picnic tables, food storage lockers, and campfire rings.

Hozomeen Campground

  • Campsites are first-come, first-served.
  • A forested campground near the shores of a reservoir.

Lakeview Campground

  • Lakeview Campground sites are reservable 2-180 days in advance at www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777.

Lower Goodell Group Campground

  • Reservations are required during the peak season for all campgrounds from late May through early September of each year. Group campsite reservations are released 12 months in advance. Campsites can be reserved online or over the phone. To reserve campsites over the phone, call recreation.gov at (877) 444-6777.
  • Lower Goodell Group Campground is located in thick forest. The roads are unpaved.

Newhalem Creek Campground

  • Reservations are required during the peak season for all campgrounds from late May through early September of each year. Individual campsite reservations are released in two different booking windows of 6 months in advance or 7 days in advance. Group campsite reservations are released 12 months in advance.   • Newhalem Creek Campground is located along the Skagit River. The campground is forested. Loops A and B are in old-growth forest, and Loop C is in an area that was burned by a wildfire in 2015. Buckner Orchard

Historic apple orchard and homestead with seasonal public apple picking.

  • A dirt road provides access to rows of apple trees with some open fields and small wooden cabins and barns.

Company Creek Trail

Company Creek Trail rises steeply through an open forest for brief views of Stehekin Valley and Bonanza Peak.

Diablo Lake Overlook

Considered one of the best scenic vistas in the park complex, Diablo Lake Overlook provides a stunning view of rugged mountains and a large glacial lake.

  • A turnout from the road leads to a fenced area overlooking forest and the greenish blue water of Diablo Lake. Steep mountains surround the lake.

Diablo Lake Trail

East Bank Trail

A moderate trail though lowland forests with lakeside views. Variable distance and elevation gain.

Easy Pass Trail

Travel through an old-growth forest for mountain and glacier views. 10 miles roundtrip.

Gorge Creek Falls

Take in views of a large waterfall and walk along a short, interpretive trail to an overlook.

  • A large waterfall flows through a rocky, steep gorge. A metal bridge walkway provides a view of the waterfall.

Happy Panther Trail

Hike in the forest along the steep bank of Ruby Arm. Up to 10 miles roundtrip.

Harlequin Bridge

A trussed bridge crosses the Stehekin River.

  • A rusty-colored metal truss bridge crosses the rushing Stehekin River.

High Bridge

High Bridge is the historic site of the High Bridge Ranger Station and provides views of the Stehekin River. A variety of trails begin in or pass through the area.

  • Alongside a dirt road, a complex of small rustic, wooden buildings are the remains of an old ranger station. The road crosses the green Stehekin River on a large wooden bridge when the river rushes through a rocky gorge.

Howard Lake Trail

Howard Lake, a small forest lake frequented by wildlife.

  • A moderately steep trail leads through an open forest to a small, shallow mountain lake. The lake is partially covered by lily pads.

Hozomeen Lake Trail

Hike a moderate trail to scenic Hozomeen Lake.

Imus Creek Trail

The 1.0 mile Imus Creek Trail loops through the forest above Stehekin Landing.

  • A dirt trail that passes through a ponderosa pine forests and over two creek beds. With views of the surrounding peaks.

Lakeshore Trail

The easy-to-moderate Lakeshore Trail follows the north shore of Lake Chelan from Prince Creek to Stehekin.

A steep and strenuous trail up McGregor Mountain.

  • A steep hike on a dirt trail that passes through thick forest, open subalpine forest, and rocky slopes. The trail ends 1,000 feet below the summit, with scrambling required to reach the top.

McKellar Cabin Trail

  • A 0.2 mile interpretive trail about the history of Stehekin Valley and its resources.

Monogram Lake

A strenuous hike to a small cirque lake. 10 miles roundtrip.

  • A moderate trail that rises and falls through groves of large cedar trees and open forest to the historic Bridge Creek Camp.

Purple Creek Trail

A steep trail provides access to sweeping views at Purple Pass, Boulder Butte, and Lake Juanita.

  • A steep trail switchbacks through a forest, part of which was burned in a forest fire in 2006. The trail reaches the open subalpine forest at Purple Pass and Lake Juanita, a small, shallow lake surrounded by larch trees.

Pyramid Lake Trail

Hike through the forest to a small mountain lake. 4.2 miles roundtrip.

Rainbow Falls, North Cascades

A 312-foot tall waterfall, located right off the Stehekin Valley Road.

  • A 300-foot waterfall drops from a rocky cliff face into the valley. A forest of cedar grows near the falls, damp from the spray, while the wide area is a dry forest of ponderosa pine.

Rainbow Loop Trail

Rainbow Loop Trail can be walked in either direction or as an up-and-back moderate hike to views of Lake Chelan.

  • A sometimes steep, rocky trail that rises through a forest to open views of Lake Chelan and surrounding peaks.

River Loop Trail

Enjoy a short, peaceful forest hike with river views. 1.8 miles roundtrip.

Ross Dam Trail

Hike this moderate trail to walk across historic Ross Dam. Option for a longer hike or backpack along Ross Lake. 1.5 miles roundtrip.
