Hazardous Tree Removal Closures in and around Historic District June 09 through 20, 2025

Weekdays between June 9 and 20, 2025, there will be intermittent closures of some park trails and parking areas in and around the Oregon Caves Historic District while hazardous tree removal work is being done.

Highway 46 temporary delays June 09 to June 20, 2025.

During hazardous tree removal work on weekdays between June 90 and June 20, 2025, Highway 46 (Caves Highway) will have short delays of up to 15-minute.

Temporary Cave Creek Campground Closure June 9th and 10th

Due to hazardous tree removal work in the Cave Creek Campground, the campground will be closed June 09 and 10, 2025.

Hazardous Tree Removal Temporary Road Closures

June 14th and 15th there will be temporary closures of these roads in the park: 960, 070 (leading to the Bigelow Lakes Trailhead) and 4613.

Pay fees by credit/debit card only.

Only credit or debit cards are accepted for all cave tour and campground fees. Entrance to Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve is free, but cave access is only available with a guide.

Cave Creek Campground

  • Nestled in the lush forests of the Illinois Valley, the 17 sites in this limited developed campground are suitable for tents. Five of these sites can accommodate an RV up to 24' with no hookups. A tour through Oregon Caves is just a short drive from the campground, and the Cave Creek Trail provides hiking access to the rest of Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve.
  • Sleep under the boughs of an old growth forest beside Cave Creek. This campground is located 15 miles up Highway 46 from Cave Junction and just four miles from the cave entrance. The campground has fire rings, water and vault toilets. The spaces are too small for large RVs or trailers and no pull through sites. The campground offers 17 sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Maximum vehicle length: 20 feet.

Illinois Valley Visitor Center

  • Illinois Valley Visitor Center
  • The center provides information about the area, including up to the moment cave tour information at the Oregon Caves National Monument & Preserve. Same day tickets for cave tours are available at the center. Afternoon wait times can be long in the summer. Buying tickets before driving to the park can save a lot of time and hassle. (Reservations can be bought up to one day in advance of the day of visit on Recreation.gov.)
