Federal Public Lands Closed to All Sheep Hunting in Portions of Units 20E/25C for 2024/2025 Seasons

The Federal Subsistence Board issued a closure to all hunting of sheep on lands south of the Yukon River within Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve due to a major decline in sheep abundance.

Smith Public Use Cabin Closure

The Superintendent issued a closure of the Smith/40-Mile Public Use Cabin due to being unsafe for public occupancy as a result of structural damage caused by the 2023 Yukon River break-up and flooding.

Eagle Historic District National Historic Landmark

A military, judicial, transportation, and communications hub for interior Alaska at the turn of the century, Fort Egbert was established as a control station and headquarters for northern Alaska in 1889.

Slaven's Roadhouse

While many historic roadhouses have burned or have rotted away, Slaven’s Roadhouse has been restored and now serves as a public use cabin and landmark along the river between Eagle and Circle. The National Park Service restored Slaven's Roadhouse to its original 1938-42 condition. Slaven's Roadhouse continues to serve the public as a landmark along the Yukon River. It is open to public access and frequently has people spending the night while traveling up and down the river.
