Southwest Battery (Castle Clinton)

• Castle Clinton National Monument was one of the New York Harbor forts built just before the War of 1812, then known as the Southwest Battery. Later it became a great entertainment complex, an important immigrant processing station, and an aquarium. Saved from destruction by the National Park Service, a 1975 restoration returned the structure to its early 1800s appearance.
